Today I was thinking about moving/packing. I know this seems like a pretty simple thing to think about, but when you suffer from anxiety like I do it can be a huge task. In a month Sexy Nerd and I will be moving into the new place which means I have to seriously start thinking about getting this place packed and ready to move. There is so much stuff to do when you move. Till now I have really just thought about the great aspects of it such as all the extra space and decorating, mostly decorating! However, to be able to decorate, everything has to be there, in boxes, not set up. Panic sets in... what if I lose something, what if I forget to wrap something properly and something important gets broke. What if... What if... What if... These are the things that have been rolling around in my head all day.
It's not that I really believe that any of these things would ruin my life. If I forget something we go back and ask the old landlord to let us in to find it. If I break something, hey DIY time to fix it. Anxiety is a crazy little monster that likes to play with my emotions. It has gotten much better over the years and I can thankfully say I can push it out of my head a lot of the time. I think that being disorganized like I am contributes a lot to the anxiety. I know that when I am super organized its harder to find nit picky things to stress about.
So for now I am just going to keep on doing my thing and try to manage as well as I can. On that note I thought I would share a couple of tips on how I manage my stress.
Take a Break- When you see yourself spiraling into the abyss of anxiety don't keep going. Take some time and listen to some music or snuggle your pets or significant other.
Write It Down- Jot down the things that are bothering you the most. A lot of the times when I see things on paper they seem a lot less daunting.
Talk it Out- Talk to someone you trust to give you a honest answer about what's going on. Just hearing someone you trust say it's going to be ok can be a lifesaver.
Find a New Angle- If the way you are approaching something is causing you stress how about trying it a different way. Trying to get your house in order in one day can be overwhelming, but if you separate the tasks into small chunks and space it out over the week it seems much more manageable.
See a Doctor- Some of us have to take medicine for our anxiety, and that is ok. It's not that we are weak, it just means that we need help. Don't ever feel ashamed to talk to your doctor about how you are feeling, it's their job to make you feel better.
Sexy Nerd also helps a lot. He has always been one of the only ones that can calm me down when things are bad. For some reason he is just able to reach me inside my head and pull me back into the real world.
Lovelies, do you have any tips that you use when you are super stressed out? Share down below, I would love to hear them!
