Even though I love all things nerd I am also a southern girl. I like the idea of southern belles and all things nice and proper. I love seeing the people go to the derby's in their finest and can't wait to see who has the best hat! I am also a Lilly lover. If you don't know who Lilly Pulitzer is, sit down and I will give you a quick lesson.
Lilly Pulitzer created the Lilly Pulitzer Company. She was born a socialite in New York and then married and moved to Florida. Here her husband owned orange orchards. Lilly decided she would sell orange juice, from their orchards, in the poshest part of town. She had shift dresses made to wear in punchy prints she picked because it was the 50's, and she wanted to hide the juice stains! So people loved them she started selling them at her stand and then she was approached to sell them on a large scale. Long story short her homemade "resort wear" dresses are now all the rage with southern belles, sorority girls, and anyone else who loves a good bold print! Lilly is not for the faint of heart. Depending on who and where you ask you might even get a response that it's the tackiest thing they have ever seen, but for the Lilly lovers of the world there is nothing better than seeing a new print hit the stores.
In January, much to the surprise of anyone who had ever heard of the Lilly brand, Target announced that they would be doing a collaboration with Lilly. Once the lookbook came out on the site I knew I would have to have a couple of pieces in Target exclusive prints. Normally, a dress would run you between $188 and $348 at Target they would be under $40. They also had homewares, kids clothes, and hair/makeup items.
So last night the Lilly+Target line went live on Target.com.
It was a disaster.
Target released that they were going to make the sale live somewhere between 12 and 3. At 12 mobile links released early for certain items accidentally and people went crazy. Items were selling out supposedly before the sale even technically started. I was so impressed that Jason Goldberg was there in the midst of things on Twitter. Because Twitter blew up with crazy women and men wanting to get Lilly.
So I waited and I waited and 3am rolled around and there was still no release and finally around 3:05am they tweeted and said it was live and then the crash happened. Lilly lovers crashed the Target site. To anyone who has never seen a Lilly sale, crashes are inevitable! I do think Target should have planned ahead and made sure their servers were equipped to handle the extra traffic. Anyways by 3:30 I was hanging on to the edge of my chair watching the loading sign spin as Target was processing my orders. Unlike many others I got 100% of my wish list, I did have a very short list though.
So lovelies, did anyone else stay up? If you did I hope you got the things you were lusting over!
